Cycladic art

Posted in art by menno1976 on September 10, 2009

Last week I covered Clayrew‘s goddesses, but this week I wanted to share these goddesses with you. When I first saw Cycladic art at the British Museum and the Allard Pierson Museum these abstract/schematic representations of women blew me away. These goddesses are so majestic and strong. Apparently they used to paint these figurines in the brightest colours, so they must’ve looked less abstract at the time. To me this is timeless design, all of these figurines look so modern.
Early Cycladic culture evolved between ca 3300 – 2000 BCE (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age).
