New Angles: daily inspiration

Posted in art, events by menno1976 on September 6, 2009

I just got back from “Ongekend” (roughly translates as “unknown”, but also as “unprecedented”), an art auction right across Central Station in Amsterdam. The auction was organized by Paul van den Biesen and Annelien Kers who in my opinion succeeded in bringing together the public/potential buyers and young artists (and all of this without the intervention of auction brokers).

The opening of the auction by the auctioneer was a performance act itself (artist: Inga Cholmogorova): The first lot was a blown glass mallet which got smashed to smithereens the moment the buyer won the bid (the hammer itself went “under the hammer”). All that remained by winning the bid was a spectacular experience.

These are some of my favourite lots.
